| Observations: | My vaidyar was narrating this incident to show how ayurvedic medicines can be used for apparently dissimilar ailments. A husband and wife pair had come to consult the vaidyar for different ailments- the wife had painful periods, the husband was suffering from diabetes and dysuria. On reading the prescription, the husband half jokingly said “But doctor, I have no periods problem, why have you prescribed the same Kumari asavam for me?”. That is really something remarkable about many ayurvedic medicines. A single preparation can be used to treat a variety of ailments. Kumari asavam is one such preparation.

| Preparation: | It's easy to create a wonderful raw juice of Kumari. The taste is very pure like water, with a subtle bitter hint and a cooling, refreshing taste. The tip that I have is to first make it straight without adding any other juices. Just a small amount of water enough to make it the consistency of a juice like pear juice or guava juice - slightly thicker than water. Remember, when you use the blender, go slow so you don't introduce too much air into the blend. It's best to vary the speed gently. This short video gives instructions on how to prepare the Kumari. |
