Tulasi, "The Goddess Who Brings Balance"
Sanskrit Name: Tulasi • English Name: "Holy Basil" • Latin Name: Ocymum basilium
Tulasi is an ancient Ayurvedic remedy mentioned 2000 years ago in the Charaka Samhita. Tulasi has been most frequently used as an immune system booster, and to provide mental energy and clarity.
| The Kailas Perspective: | People are getting into Tulasi, and know it in the West as "Holy Basil". But when you really get how holy Tulasi really is, there is no Western concept that can translate the amount of grace and power Tulasi represents. I have been worshipping Tulasi since 1985, still to this day recall the buzzing pure vibration that surrounds the plants. |
| Ayurvedic Perspective: | Tulasi gives balance and clarity to removes negative energy and she grants spiritual protection because she is considered to be a living incarnation of the Goddess Lakshmi. | |
| Nourishes: | Body, Mind and Spirit | |
| Tonifies: | Immune System (adaptogenic), Memory, Nervous System | |

| Observations: | The Balance-Giving Goddess - "Tula" - in Sanskrit means "Balance, equal measure". "The story of Lord Krishna has it that when Krishna was weighed in gold, not even all the ornaments of Satyabhama could outweigh him. But a single tulsi leaf placed by Rukmani on the pan tilted the scale." - Subhamoy Das, About.com |
